Dallas Black Dance Theatre’s “Spring Celebration Series” is going on May 17-20 at the Wyly Theatre. The “powerful and intense” (as dbdt.com deems it and I don’t doubt it) performance will include Alvin Ailey’s “Escapades” as well as guest artist Jamel Gaines & Creative Outlet Dance Theatre of Brooklyn.
Saturday, May 19, however, is a different kind of night, deemed the “Finale Celebration” in honor of the closing of the company’s 35th season. On that night, not only will the company perform, but afterward four floors of the Wyly Theatre will be open for an after party filled with eating, drinking, mingling with the dancers, and of course there will be live music for dancing until midnight. Unlike the kind on stage, everyone is encouraged to join in this dancing.
